memory game 8

I remember being a teenager and grumbling as I passed the jewelry cases at the mall that housed the “mom” themed necklaces and bracelets.

How cheesy, I thought.
When I become a Mom…
I hope my kids will know that I’d much rather have a spa day,

or a weekend away,
or those shoes I have been drooling over for weeks?

It wasn’t until MY first Mother’s Day,
when Wesley was still kicking in my tummy,
and I unwrapped a pendant necklace that read “happy mommy”,
and the tears began to flow…
It wasn’t until then that I understood the significance of a heartfelt gift acknowledging my proudest accomplishment–Motherhood.

I wore that “Mom” necklace like a badge of honor,
proudly displayed for all to see as a prize earned for the hardest job I would ever have.

Since that first Mother’s Day, the gifts that have meant the most to me are those that capture the precious moments and little miracles of this journey into motherhood.

An uninterrupted nap,
a day without laundry or dishes,
a home cooked meal and a blueberry pie,
my boys playing and giggling in the backyard,
followed by an afternoon of cuddling,
and a simple gift with sweet sentiment.
This is my idea of Mother’s Day.

Since we live far away from our family, I’d love to make the flashcards or face/name book so my little one can learn the names and faces of our family members. It’d make everyone so happy at holidays when little one knows who they are—they are always telling me that because we live so far away, little one will never know who they are. 🙁

When my siblings and I were little, we had a nanny named Krissy who would come stay with us every day while my parents worked. She is only about 10 years older than me and she’s like a big sister. My little sister, Shannon, loved Memory and so Krissy would spend hours flipping the cards and playing with her. Krissy recently had her first baby, and if I won the gift card to Pinhole Press I would make her a personalized Memory game with pictures of the memories they’ve made since he was born, and maybe some family pictures of Krissy and her husband. One day when the baby is old enough I know Shannon will be playing memory with him, just like his mama did with her! The personalized Memory game is such a cute idea:)

My daughter, Maeve, who is 3 1/2 still can not talk and can not identify people (family members) yet. She is delayed because of Sensory Processing Disorder and LOVES memory games! This would be PERFECT for her to start identifying all of us!! Thank you so much for the WONDERFUL idea!!!!

I have several new friends that just had babies and the journal would be so great for them. We forget to write down special times with our littles. We need to congratulate and encourage those around us. I had pos-partum depression with my first son and just a little thoughtfulness now and then is amazing.

I would have to make some serious decisions as to what I would do with the gift card but I can say the options would definitely be The Coffee Table Memory Boxes for both Grandmas, The Memory Game and Flashcards for my sweet Millie girl and the Spiral Journal for me ( I am an avid list maker). I LOVE THEM ALL!!!!!!
